Divisions

  • Streets
    • The streets division is responsible for maintaining approximately 285 lane miles of major and local streets. 
    • Job duties include street paving and surface treatments, snow and ice removal, street sweeping, storm sewer and drain maintenance, repairing cave-ins and washouts, right of way tree management, roadside mowing, public sidewalk repair, and roadside trash and rubbish removal.
  • Parks
    • Our parks division maintains 8 city parks, the grounds at 3 cemeteries and approximately 93 acres of parkland. The parks departments are responsible for mowing, trimming, the maintenance of baseball fields, softball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, replacement of park equipment, conducting safety inspections, DDA maintenance, and irrigation. The parks department is also responsible for snow removal at the parks in the winter.

  • Fleet Services
    • The fleet services division maintains approximately 250 pieces of equipment. Equipment includes dump trucks, police cars, fire trucks, construction equipment, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, etc. The fleet technicians are responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of city owned vehicles and equipment, fabrication, upfitting, and building/ordering new equipment, fuel management, regulatory compliance, and ensuring fleet readiness for emergency response.
  • Building Maintenance
    • Our building maintenance division conducts routine and preventive maintenance, repairs and custodial tasks in municipal buildings and facilities to ensure they remain clean, safe, and operational for employees and the public.
    • It maintains five major facilities and several misc. storage facilities including: 
      • Fire Station #2 
      • Fire Station #3
      • City Hall
      • Public Safety Building (Fire, Police and Court)
      • KDL Walker Library Branch
  • Sign Shop
    • The sign shop division orchestrates the production, installation and maintenance of all City traffic control signs and devices, maintenance of barricades, and oversees traffic marking/centerline painting activities on major streets as well as graphic design and installation on City fleet vehicles. 
  • Right of Way Permitting
    • Permitting activity within the City right of way and public easements including sidewalk/driveway permits, inspections of utilities, telecommunications, storm sewer, asphalt, concrete, and new road construction. Other duties include FOIA requests, as-built inquiries, and MISS DIG tickets.
