On Monday and Tuesday (June 6 & 7), crews will be seal coating part of the Fred Meijer trail south of Standale. Work will begin at the trail off Sunset Hills Avenue SW., just next to Harmon Park, and continue south to Butterworth Street (see image below).
The trail system needs maintenance, just as your home and yard does. Foot and bicycle traffic, along with sun, wind, and rain can wear on the quality of a trail. Snow, ice, and salt are particularly tough on asphalt. Sealcoating is a roll on coating designed for asphalt surfaces to help extend the life of our trails by filling in cracks, protecting against harsh weather, and preventing water from causing further damage.
While it doesn't take long to dry, it can cause the bottom of shoes or bike tires to turn black for a short time after it's applied.
Like all outdoor work this time of year, this schedule is subject to the weather. Should rain keep the project from happening on the scheduled days, we will post the new work dates once we have those set.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work to preserve your Walker trails!
