Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy Walker Safety Day with us over the weekend! Many of you showed up on Saturday to check out our safety vendors, stock up on free safety swag, and enjoy delicious BBQ and jambalaya from Sobie Meats and Squirrels 2 BBQ.
This event combined Safety Day and Sobie Meats' annual community cookout. The cookout traditionally raises donations for the Walker Police and Fire Departments. Public Safety uses those donations to purchase items for everyday operations, such as emergency lights for traffic scenes and an indoor drone, which provides critical real-time information that can potentially prevent or mitigate disaster.
This year, police and fire collected donations for three new Emergency Plugs. These devices prevent unpredictable vehicle movement by Full or Hybrid Electric Vehicles (EVs) in an emergency, such as vehicle crashes.
Thanks to our generous community, police and fire reached their fundraising goal, according to Sobie Meats. They raised $3,000, which now allows police and fire to purchase three electric vehicle disablers to make 911 situations safer!
On behalf of our public safety departments, thank you for helping support a safer community!
