News Detail

WALKER, MI - Starting on Tuesday, September 5, the I-96 eastbound off-ramp at Walker Avenue will be closed due to road construction. The official detour from I-96 will be the Alpine Avenue exit ramp.

The project will include reconstructing the eastbound off-ramp further south so that it aligns with Holton Court. This new intersection will include a traffic signal. Construction is expected to begin immediately after Labor Day weekend on Tuesday, September 5. All roads are expected to be open to traffic by Friday, October 27.

During construction, traffic will be maintained with a minimum of one lane in each direction on Walker Avenue. At times Holton Court may be down to one lane and will be controlled by a flag man.

The project is a collaboration between Meijer Corporation, the Walkerview / FedEx group, the City of Walker and MDOT’s Transportation Economic Development Fund (TEDF). The ramp and road work will address current and future traffic congestion while improving safety in the area.
