We are seeking adult advisors to serve on the Youth Committee!
We need civic-minded residents who would like to inspire the youth of Walker!  No need to be a local government expert – a willingness to learn alongside them is highly encouraged!

The Youth Committee acts as an advisory committee to the Walker Youth Commission to encourage participation in City government and public service by the youth of the Community.  Made up of 6 members of the Community and one City Commissioner, the Youth Committee guides the Youth Commission while they learn about local government and civic affairs through educational opportunities and observation and community service events.

Samples of former Youth Commission activities include: attending City meetings and observing the proceedings, collecting food at the Winter Fest for a community-wide holiday food drive, touring City facilities and talking with departments to learn what happens in City Hall, developing a project from start to finish to mark trails in the park including raising funds to offset the cost of the project, adopt-a-road clean up, and volunteering at the Easter Egg Hunt to name a few!

As a Committee member, you guide the Youth through these activities, promote participation in civic affairs and foster participation within the community.  Meetings are typically twice per month from September through May and twice during the summer in the evening hours.  Must be a Walker resident.

Interested parties should complete a Boards & Committees Application located on our website here or call Shannon Bales, Human Resources Administrator and Staff Liaison to the Youth Committee at (616) 791-6797.
