Commissioner Sandra Howland

howlandpictureWelcome to Walker City,

I am Sandra Howland and it is my honor and privilege to serve (YOU) our citizens of Walker as your City Commissioner for the 3rd Ward.  Prior to my appointment (2013) and my election (2015) as City Commissioner, I served as an appointed member of the Walker Zoning Board of Appeals.  I have continued on the Zoning Board of Appeals as the City Commissioner since my appointment in 2013.

In addition to my City Commission seat, I have actively served the Walker Community and the Michigan Municipal League in the following roles:
        • Community Relations Committee
        • Finance Committee (alternate)
        • Kent District Library Liaison
        • MML Legislative Policy Committee
        • MML Elected Officials Academy Board of Directors
        • Mineral Mining Board
        • Ordinance Committee
        • Personnel Committee
        • Youth Commission
        • Zoning Board of Appeals
I live in South Walker and I grew up in the Standale area where I’ve had the privilege of watching the city grow from a few neighborhoods to the thriving city it is today. I bring a wealth of business experience and an active level of community involvement.

Currently, I am the President of Office Cleaning Services in Walker and serve as the  Office Manager for the Salvation Army Fulton Heights Citadel.  I am on the Property and Finance Committee (18 years) for my church, Standale Baptist Church, I am on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Municipal League; the Elected Officials Academy    and the Legislative Policy Committee, and I am a member of the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services and J’s Journey (an organization dedicated to fundraising for terminally ill citizens to help pay their medical expenses.)

Preserving and improving our Community Parks is my top priority.  I want to ensure our families have quality parks for years to come.  I am also passionate about helping our police and firefighters secure state of the art technology and modern equipment to perform their jobs responsibly. I encourage active participation in local government and I will be there to help walk alongside you as you consider volunteering for our great city.

I have two sons and three grandchildren.  I enjoy visiting them in Hawaii and Texas, playing golf and volunteering my time for worthy causes.

I am available to you any time via email or via phone or text at (616) 634-0046.
